Soul Sweat Philadelphia August 2016

Join us at Soul Sweat Philadelphia on Sunday August 21st as we celebrate August birthdays including Soul Sweat Elder & Guide Baaba Pa-Ur’s.

It will also be your chance to get in some quality ‘Me’ time for yourself. Even though it’s hot and humid outside, we’ll be going in to the hot sauna and steam room and balance that off with cooling showers and refreshing pools. Hot and cold treatments are a great way to increase blood circulation, stimulate deep relaxation and stress relief.

It’s a special Sweat at Soul Sweat Philadelphia on Sunday June 19, 2016. We’re going to have our healing spa party from 10am until about 4pm and then we are all going to head over to the
Lest We Forget Museum of African American Slavery. Admission to the museum is only $10

This is a great museum in Philadelphia that houses a wide variety of relics from the era of chattel slavery in America including authentic slave shackles, chains, whips, branding irons and other items that were used for human bondage and punishment as well as various household products that reflect the mindset of the time period.

‘Why in the world would I want to visit a place like that?’ you might ask. And that’s a great question. The purpose of visiting this museum is primarily to remind us of what our ancestors had to endure. It puts any trials and tribulations you are currently going through into perspective. It helps us to realize how far we have come and how far we still need to go.

We visited this museum after a Sweat in 2013 and it was a very emotional experience for all who were able to attend. It is a soul-enhancing experience. You won’t be the same after  you leave the museum.

At Soul Sweat Philadelphia on Sunday April 17, 2016 we’re going to celebrate Mudman’s birthday and all of those who were born in April including Dr. Wilson ‘The Herb Lady,’ Imani and others.

Mudman, who is the organizer of Soul Sweat Philadelphia, is responsible for encouraging Baaba Pa-Ur in Brooklyn, NY to come and hold Soul Sweats in Philadelphia. That was around 2007. There were times when only a few people showed up to the Sweats in Philly and Mudman considered giving it up. But he stayed consistent and now Soul Sweat Philadelphia is the most successful of all of the Soul Sweats, with more people attending than the Soul Sweats in Brooklyn and Miami.

Soul Sweat Philadelphia December 2015

We’re celebrate the Winter Solstice at Soul Sweat Philadelphia on Sunday December 20th which is the day before the Winter Solstice here in the northern hemisphere (where we are). The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. It also marks the beginning of Winter.

You can say that the winter solstice marks ‘The birth of the Sun’ because from that point in time, daylight will gradually get longer and longer each day until we reach the longest day of the year six months later around June 21st 2015 which is called the Summer Solstice.

The winter solstice is an excellent time to ‘go within’ for self-reflection, self-analysis and self-examination. It’s a great time to slow down and be more still. You may even feel like sleeping later. You may also find yourself feeling more emotional and sensitive with a desire to release and even cry. Don’t hold back. Go with the flow. That releasing and those tears are your way of dispersing your own ‘darkness’ and clearing space, making room for the ever growing, ever expanding Light that is coming.

Simply being mindful of the Winter Solstice is a great way for you to be in alignment with the power of the ‘birth’ of your ‘Sun’ within.
